Subsea Umbilical, Riser & Flowline (SURF) Pre-commissioning

Fairtex Group provides a full scope of precommissioning services for umbilicals, flowlines, and risers. Umbilical pre-commissioning is a suite of tests performed from a host facility, usually an offshore platform or a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, to confirm the mechanical and structural integrity of newly installed umbilical(s) and associated in-field electrical, hydraulic, and, in some instances, fiber optic functional connections.

These functional connections are made through the use of dedicated electrical, hydraulic, and optical flying leads which allow the conveyance of hydraulic power, communication, and production chemicals/service fluids via umbilicals connected between a host facility and Subsea Production System (SPS). We own and operate for that purpose an extensive range of pumping units, flushing units, high-pressure testing units, nitrogen generators, and compressors quickly mobilizable worldwide, enabling us to deliver the following typical pre-commissioning activities:

• Riser and flowline flushing with high flow pumping and filtration units.


• Riser and flowline hydrostatic pressure testing.


• Riser and flowline leak testing (e.g., with nitrogen).


• Riser and flowline cleaning, gauging, dewatering, and drying.


• Riser annulus testing.


• Provision of cleaning pigs and Pig Launchers/Receivers (PLR), including subsea PLR systems for pigging operations.


• Umbilical hydraulic and chemical line flushing.


• Umbilical hydraulic and chemical line pressure testing and leak testing.


• Umbilical electrical line testing.

Subsea Umbilical, Riser & Flowline (SURF) Decommissioning

We provide subsea decommissioning activities, especially in offshore platforms or Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, to confirm the mechanical and structural integrity of newly installed umbilical(s) and associated in-field electrical, hydraulic, and, in some instances, fiber optic functional connections, where more and more subsea fields require decommissioning and abandonment.

Our scope of UFR decommissioning services includes:

• Flushing/Cleaning of risers and flowlines using mechanical pigs, foam pigs, or gel pigs pumped from topside in closed loop or in open loop using Subsea Pig Launcher/Receiver (SPLR).


• Flushing/Cleaning of risers and flowlines using density-controlled pigging gel pumped from topside, from a support vessel using a downline, or by bull-heading into wells.


• Flushing/Cleaning of umbilicals hydraulic and chemical lines by high-pressure pumping from topside, using in priority eco-friendly preservation fluids.


• Post-flushing/Cleaning fluid sample analysis to ensure compliance with local regulations.


• Subsea cutting and surface recovery of umbilicals, flowlines, and risers.
